This painting was inspired by the The Gaza Freedom Flotilla, the peaceful humanitarian mission of the Madleen earlier this year - one of several attempts to break the Israeli blockade and send humanitarian aid to Gaza via ships.
The Madleen sail for Gaza 1st of June 2025 with 12 passengers, carrying baby formula, 100 kg of flour, 250 kg of rice, diapers, menstrual products, water desalination kits, medical supplies, crutches, and children's prosthetics. Twelve passengers were on board, including activist Greta Thunberg and French Member of European Parliament Rima Hassan.
Isreali forces illegally intercepted this little boat in international waters, only 185 km from Gaza, on the 9th June. The crew were taken to an Israeli detention centre, held and eventually deported to their own countries. This was an illegal act by the Isreali Government under international law.
Yesterday a much larger mission set sail: The Global Sumud Flotilla, consisting of around 20 boats with participants from 44 countries, heading for Gaza as we speak, across rough oceans, with hulls filled with aid. Israeli forces have already said that they intend to intercept.
My heart is with all those on board these little vessels of hope... thank you for your bravery.
Follow them on social media. They need our eyes and support in pressuring our leaders to take action against the illegal and abhorrent actions of the Israeli State .
